I’ve worked in some form of customer service for about five years now, and I continue to be surprised by the things that customers say, both to me and to coworkers. I won’t go into specifics, but it usually has something to do with the amount of money someone has to pay and the reasons for it. Or it has to do with the fact that you won’t let someone break the rules.

But the fact is that people seem to think it’s okay to be rude to another human being just because they aren’t getting their way. When really, they should realize that they’re probably more likely to get what they want with kindness rather than with anger. And if kindness doesn’t work, then they need to accept that it’s not possible. Or that they need to be willing to compromise, because usually there is some solution, even if…
