An Ode To Shoulds

If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say something like “I should exercise” or “I should eat more healthy” or “I should donate to charity” or “I should *insert almost anything here*,” I’d be a millionaire. Or maybe like a thousandaire. Math is hard.

But anyway I am a culprit of this should mentality myself, ashamedly. My shoulds are usually related to reading checked out library books, making pre-packed meals for the week, and watering/tending the garden.

Why are we so full of shoulds? It’s always “I should…” rarely followed up by an “I will now.” Though, mostly you hear “next week” or “next year.”

Personally I’m going to try working on my should addiction. I mean, I should work on my shoulds. Maybe next year.
